Goals and Objectives
SERVING THE UNDERSERVED

To provide a philosophy for library service to young adults and communicate that philosophy to seminar participants who will use training techniques learned during the seminar to conduct workshops for generalists and other staff members in school and public libraries which will help them provide services to young adults that meet their needs.

OBJECTIVES

  • To introduce and demonstrate the training model that will be used by seminar participants in workshops for generalists and others in school and public libraries.
  • To provide information about the YALSA vision and philosophy that can be communicated to generalists and other library staff members who serve young adults in school and public libraries.
  • To identify the basic tenets and components of library service for young adults.
  • To provide information about today's young adults and their needs that seminar participants can communicate to generalists and other staff members who work with young adults in school and public libraries.
  • To identify problems that library staff face when serving today's young adults.
  • To provide techniques and strategies for seminar participants to pass on to generalists and other staff members in school and public libraries who can use them to solve these problems.
  • To provide instruction in training techniques to use with adult learners.
  • To provide a discussion list and web site for the SUS trainers so that new information and support will be available after the seminar is over.
