Poetry Slam in Cleveland Heights

The Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library (Ohio) held a wildly successful Poetry Slam on November 21, 2002. Twelve teen poets competed in three rounds of judging to determine 3 prize winners. Judges included two librarians and a public school teacher. An outside coach set up the Slam and the prep sessions with the aid of the a library associate.

The teens prepared by attending 3 Poetry Café sessions where they practiced presentation and writing skills and the Cleveland Heights community supported the event with an overflow attendance. Another slam will be held in the spring
