YALSA Committees
There are two types of YALSA committees, Process and Selection. Appointments are made for Process Committees in the Spring and Selection Committees in the Fall.
YALSA Task Forces
A task force is an action-oriented membership group whose charge is to address specific goals, complete a specific task, or to consider a particular issue.
YALSA Award Juries
YALSA has 5 different award juries who determine the winners of the grant with the same name: Baker & Taylor/YALSA Conference Grants; BWI/YALSA Collection Development Grant; Frances Henne/VOYA/YALSA Research Grant; Great Book Giveaway; and MAE Award for Best Literature Program for Teens.
YALSA Discussion Groups
A Discussion Group is an informal group that allows discussion of topics of common interst during ALA's Annual Conference and Midwinter Meeting.
YALSA Interest Groups
An interest group is a sub-body established to facilitate the exchange of ideas and experiences and may sponsor formal conference programs, institutes and seminars, or prepare publications. Interest groups are expected to meet at the ALA Annual Conference, and they may also meet at the Midwinter Meeting.
Process CommitteesThe purpose of a process committee is to help carry out the business of the association by handling matters such as membership recruitment, planning Teen Read Week, local arrangements at conferences, and much more. If you have not served on a committee before, process committees are where you can get your start. Thirty-three percent of the members of a process committee can be virtual. |
Selection CommitteesEach one of the selection committees is established to select specific media/booklists or choose YALSA's award winners such as Michael L. Printz, Alex, and Margaret A. Edwards. YALSA members with previous committee experience are considered more seriously for positions on selection committees than those without previous committee experience. There are no virtual members on selection committees. |
