Age Definition:

The YALSA definition of age for young adults is 12 through 18. Program planners are requested to consider the entire age range when developing a program. However, this does not preclude targeting a specific segment within that age range (e.g. young adolescents).

Program Definition:

A program is "a continuing education experience in a structured format, at a scheduled time, for a specific audience."

Committee Function:

To review, facilitate and coordinate the planning for all conference and non conference program proposals and make an overall recommendation to the YALSA Board on YALSA programs.

Committee Responsibilities:

Program Planning Process

YALSA Program Clearinghouse Committee is to review and evaluate all proposals for YALSA programs to be offered during the Annual Conference as well as programs that might be scheduled outside the Annual Conference. The Committee, following review of all requests for program time and after consultation with the YALSA Executive Director and Vice President, will recommend to the YALSA Board of Directors the allocation of funds and time for programs being presented under the auspices of the Division. The YALSA Board may take one of the following actions:

Duties of a Liaison from Program Planning Clearinghouse and Evaluation Committee

  1. To help the committee or member complete paperwork promptly.
  2. To answer questions from the committee or member and Program Clearinghouse Committee about the program.
  3. To keep in contact with the committees or members.
  4. Attend liaisoned committee's or YALSA member's program.

Programs, with the possible exception of the President's Program, will be scheduled only if they have first been reviewed by the YALSA Program Planning Clearinghouse and Evaluation Committee and then approved by the YALSA Board of Directors.
