Edwin
Buckhalter, Chairman

If the future of world
civilization lies with education, then it is unacceptable that any country
should fail to educate its children (and in some cases adults) to read and
write and to introduce them to the pleasures of gaining knowledge and
experience through reading.
Libraries reinforce
teaching and open wide horizons to all, irrespective of their background. At a
time of budget cuts and economic difficulties it is critical for the ALA to maintain its support for The Campaign for America’s (and
the World’s) Libraries.
I am only too delighted
that Severn House’s contribution demonstrates our ongoing willingness to
support library advocacy via the Champion program, which in turn helps produce
a balanced society – and its future leaders in the community.
