AIA/ALA Library Buildings Award seeks jury nominations

The Building and Equipment Section (BES) Library Building Awards Committee of The Library Administration and Management Association (LAMA) is seeking nominations and applications for jurors for the 2009 Library Buildings Award competition.  Jointly sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the prestigious biennial awards recognize distinguished accomplishments in library architecture by American architects.

The jury consists of three librarians selected by ALA and three architects selected by AIA.  The LAMA BES Library Building Awards Committee will review applications and select the ALA jurors.  The LAMA president will make the official appointments to the jury by May 15.  Judging will take place in January, 2009 at the AIA headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Applicants for the jury must be members of ALA and LAMA.  Applicants should also be aware that projects presented in the jurying process are disqualified from consideration if any of the jurors served as a consultant or architect for the project or is in any way affiliated with the project. Selected jurors will provide their own transportation and lodging for the judging in Washington, D.C.

Prospective jurors may obtain application forms from the LAMA web site at:

Kerry Ward, Executive Director, LAMA – email kward@ala.org , phone (800) 545-2433, ext. 5036.

Applications must be returned to the LAMA office by April 18.  Electronic submission is preferred.

The mission of the Library Administration and Management Association (www.ala.org/lama) is to encourage and nurture current and future library leaders and to develop and promote outstanding leadership and management practices. LAMA is a division of the American Library Association.
