LIVE! @ your library Reading Stage In the Exhibition Hall at the back of the 2500 aisle Saturday, Sunday, and Monday: noon–4 p.m.
Take a break from a day of meetings and programs and stop by the LIVE! @ your library Reading Stage in the Exhibition Hall to enjoy readings from new and favorite authors and poets, learn how to develop author programs for your library, and find new recommendations for your patrons.
Each year, acclaimed and new writers grace the Reading Stage. In the past, readers featured on the stage have included Nick Hornby, Dinaw Mengestu, Elizabeth Berg, Geraldine Brooks, Susan Power, Kent Haruf, Edward P. Jones, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Naomi Shihab Nye, U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser, and Lisa See.
After each reading, LIVE! authors will be available to sign copies of their work for conference attendees. See the 2008 schedule.
Visit the LIVE! @ your library Reading Stage on Sunday, June 29, at 9:30 am for the presentation of the 2008 Sara Jaffarian School Library Program Award to the Woodsdale Elementary School School Library Media Center of Wheeling, West Virginia. Learn more about the winning program, “History Hits the Road to Woodsdale," and join the winner for a reception in the Public Programs Office booth, #2591.

Traveling Exhibits for Libraries: New Opportunities Anaheim Convention Center, 203A Staff from the Space Science Telescope Institute, Baltimore, MD, will share information about a library exhibit celebrating the International Year of the Telescope. Exhibits on Jewish themes from Nextbook—a gateway to Jewish literature, culture and ideas, and other exhibit grant opportunities will be discussed. We the People Picturing America: Presenting Programs in Your School or Public Library Anaheim Convention Center, 213C Project directors for the National Endowment for the Humanities’ Picturing America(SM) pilot initiative share their experiences using the Picturing America poster collection to conduct programs in school and public libraries. Librarians who applied to receive the grant in 2008 are invited to attend for programming tips, new ideas and best practices. Information about how to apply for the collection this fall will also be offered. Let’s Talk About It: Love & Forgiveness Anaheim Convention Center, Room 203A Organized by the ALA Public Programs Office and the Fetzer Institute, as part of its Campaign for Love & Forgiveness, “Let’s Talk About It: Love & Forgiveness” is a theme-based, scholar-led reading and discussion series that explores the best in contemporary and classic literature. Thirty grants are available for public libraries interested in hosting the series. Session attendees will gain valuable information about the July 15, 2008 deadline as well as insights from advisors, program planners and the national project scholar.
