Awards Recognizing Excellence in Library Programming
The following annual awards are offered to honor, promote, and support excellence in library programming. Guidelines, applications, and further information for each award will be found by clicking on the link for each award.
Sara Jaffarian School Library Program Award
The Sara Jaffarian School Library Program Award provides a $4,000 cash grant and plaque to a school library that has conducted an exemplary program or program series in the humanities. The selected library will participate in a PPO-sponsored national training opportunity, highlighting their award-winning program as a model for others to develop outstanding humanities programs. To be considered, applicants must have conducted a humanities program or program series during the previous school year. The humanities program can be focused in many subject areas, including, but not limited to, social studies, poetry, drama, art, music, literature, foreign language, and culture. Programs should focus on broadening perspectives and helping students understand the wider world and their place in it. Application deadline: December 1
John Cotton Dana Library Public Relations Award
The John Cotton Dana Library Public Relations Award is sponsored by the H.W. Wilson Company and the Library Administration and Management Association (LAMA), a division of ALA, to honor outstanding library public relations programs that support a specific project, goal, or activity, or a sustained, ongoing program. The award consists of a $3,000 cash grant. Application deadline: December 8
Marshall Cavendish Excellence in Library Programming Award
The Marshall Cavendish Excellence in Library Programming Award is a $2,000 cash grant given to recognize a school or public library that demonstrates excellence in library programming by providing programs that have community impact and respond to community needs. Application deadline: December 1
EBSCO Excellence in Small and/or Rural Public Library Service Award
The EBSCO Excellence in Small and/or Rural Public Library Service Award provides recognition and a $1,000 honorarium to a public library serving a population of 10,000 or less that demonstrates excellence of service to its community as exemplified by an overall service program or a special program of significant accomplishment. Application deadline: December 1
