ORGANIZATION (standing, Council)
History: Created by the ALA Council on June 21, 1956, to replace the former Committee on Boards and Committees (established by Council in 1940). Prior to that, the Committee existed as provided for in the ALA Bylaws as the Committee on Committees. Became a Council Committee in 1972. Provided for in Bylaw Article VIII, Section 2(b). TO CONSIST OF 13 MEMBERS FOR TWO-YEAR STAGGERED TERMS; CHAIRPERSON APPOINTED ANNUALLY.
Charge: To recommend to Council the establishment of discontinuance of divisions, roundtables, and committees, as the needs of the Association my require. Such Committee shall define the functions of each division, roundtable, and committee subject to approval of the Council. The Council, upon recommendation of the Committee on Organization, may establish other standing committees to consider matters of the Association that require continuity of attention by the members. The Committee on Organization shall recommend the name and size of each committee.
