Your Library, Your Space: Using Research To Make Libraries People Friendly

Monday, June 30, 2008
1:30-3:30
Anaheim Convention Center
Room 207D

In preparing for a new or renovated library today, librarians and architects place the user at the center of design planning. To be successful, libraries must understand how customers currently use our spaces. Learn how qualitative methods such as observation, focus groups, and interviews provide the keys to designing libraries that enhance institutional missions as well as the social dimensions of learning and community.

Speakers:

Karen McPheeters, Director of the Farmington (N.M.) Public Library, and Sharon Rowlen, designer, space planner and owner of Group3Planners, will discuss research methods used to design new public libraries.

Robert Fox, Associate Director for Library Administration, Georgia Tech University, will review the renovation process that the library used to better support the changing needs of students and faculty as well as the evaluation methods used to measure success.

The panel will be moderated by Rochelle Logan, chair of the ALA Committee on Research and Statistics (CORS).
