LITA Web manager named

CHICAGO - The Library and Information Technology Association (LITA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Jean Rainwater to the position of LITA Web Manager.

Following an application process that culminated in interviews at ALA Midwinter, the LITA Board approved Jean Rainwater, Co-Leader of Integrated Technology Services at Brown University Library, Providence, Rhode Island, to begin her two-year term in March 2008.

Bonnie Postlethwaite, LITA Past President and chair of the search committee said, “Jean Rainwater brings excellent Web site development and management experience to the role of LITA Web Manager.  Her vision for a dynamic and state-of-the-art site reflects what LITA members want.  I look forward to a refreshed and refreshing new LITA Web site under Jean’s direction.”

The LITA Web manager’s responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate the LITA web site working with appropriate LITA Committee and Interest Group coordinators, LITA Web Editors, the Board and staff.
  • Determine the content, form, and design of the site, which provides "the face of LITA" to both its members and the public in consultation with the LITA Board.
  • Work with the LITA Office to investigate, test, and implement new technologies for web publishing. 
  • Establish a web technologies sandbox for prototyping and developing new services and content for LITA members; invite and authorize LITA members to participate in this development activity
  • Chair and coordinate the activities of the LITA Web Coordinating Committee
  • Provide LITA representation on the ALA Web Advisory Committee.

LITA, with over 4,000 members, has been serving the needs of the library and information technology community since 1966. Its mission is to educate, serve, and reach out to that community through its programs, publications and other activities. LITA is a division of the American Library Association.
