Program on Medical Informatics, 1992. Accomplishments: We recently completed a planning process for the Triangle
Research Libraries Network (comprised of the libraries at Duke, NCCU, NCSU and
UNC Chapel Hill) that resulted in an impressive set of Digital Initiatives. As
Director, I coordinate our collaboritive efforts on these projects as well as
cooperative collection development, reciprocal services, and training and staff
development. One of our Digital Initiatives is to implement the Endeca faceted
browse capabilities across our combined collections, and this will be
accomplished in early 2008. My career has been all about putting technology to
work to further library services. I believe that one of my greatest strengths
is the ability to organize and work with staff groups to identify needs, assess
alternatives, and implement solutions. I have experience in public, health
sciences, and academic research libraries, as well as in information management
consulting and library automation companies. I understand the benefits of
collaboration, and I enjoy opportunities to work with colleagues and peers in
our consortium and in professional organizations like ALA, LITA, and CNI.
STATEMENT: I have benefited greatly from my involvement in LITA, and
I welcome the opportunity to serve the LITA membership and help the Board
accomplish the strategic plan objectives. I have served on two LITA National
Forum committees and I recognize the value and impact of delivering programming
in a variety of geographic locations. I served on the Regional Institutes
Committee and I also worked with the LITA Education Working Group that
recommended merging the RIC and Education committees. As technology skills
become more and more pervasive throughout our profession, LITA must continue to
refine its services and programs and to look for new opportunities to best meet
the needs of the membership and the profession. I look forward to working with
the Board of Directors and the membership to ensure that LITA continues to lead
in exploring and enabling new technologies to empower libraries.
