LITA Pre-Midwinter Workshops
Two new LITA Regional Institutes will be held January 19 & 20, 2006, in San Antonio, TX, prior to Midwinter.
User Centered Design: Design Process. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn about a design process for managing digital projects within a library context. Using examples, lecture, and exercises we will discuss staff skills and responsibilities, artifacts of the design process (items that staff create during the design process), and communication channels. Web technologies and standards are included as a framework for the design process.
Registration fees: $180 LITA Members, $280 ALA Members; $380 non-members.
User Centered Design: Usability. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn about usability theory and methodology within a library context. Participants will practice several types of tests and construct test instruments. We will review the major administrative aspects of usability testing including how to manage test results, equipment, recruitment, and human subjects testing exemption.
Registration fees: $180 LITA Members; $280 ALA Members; $380 non-members.
Sign up for both and save! $300 LITA Members; $500 ALA Members; and $700 non-members for the two-day event.

LITA Town Meeting
LITA President-Elect Bonnie Postlethwaite invites LITA members to the LITA Town Meeting, to be held on Monday, January 23, 2006, from 8:00 am - 10:00 am in Salon J of the Marriott Rivercenter hotel in San Antonio, TX.
Previous years' Town Meeetings have focused on gathering input for the LITA Strategic Plan, which was approved by the LITA Board at Annual Conference 2005 in Chicago ( http://www.ala.org/ala/lita/aboutlita/org/plan.htm).
This year's Town Meeting will be a facilitated discussion of the first of the Strategic Plan's objectives, "to educate." Aaron Cohen Associates have graciously offered their services to LITA to facilitate the Town meeting. Aaron and Alex Cohen will gather input from LITA members about their visions for putting the objective's strategies into action.
The LITA Blog will be used to begin gathering input from LITA members prior to the conference and to follow-up the discussion after the conference. The perspective of members unable to attend conferences is critical to the success of this key strategic initiative.
This year's Town Meeting will also launch a year-long celebration of LITA's 40th anniversary. A slide show and brief summary of LITA's incredible accomplishments will provide a launching point from which we can build on our successes.
