Welcome to the LITA Board of Directors!
The following is a brief introduction to your responsibilities as a member of the LITA Board of Directors.Before we start getting into the description of the responsibilites, it is probably best to review our past activites.
The Organization, Policies, and ProceduresA good place to begin the review of your new responsibilities is with the LITA Bylaws and the LITA Manual. The following are sections of the LITA Bylaws and LITA Manual that are the most applicable to your role as a Board member.
All of our Board of Directors meetings and Executive Board minutes are posted to the LITA Web site in the Board of Directors section. These provide a solid overview of the activities of LITA.
Bylaws - Article V: Board of DirectorsDuring your term of office, you will be expected to attend all Board meetings. These take place at the ALA Annual and Midwinter Conferences on Saturday morning and Tuesday afternoon. Please see the schedule for the specific conference as it is posted on the LITA site prior to the conference. The Board usually has an informal (optional attendance) dinner on the Friday night of conference; you will be notified about it near the conference time. For specific conferences, the LITA office and/or the Executive Committee may notify you about other meetings it would be good for you to attend.

Provides an overview of the duties of LITA Officers and Board members.Policies
States the policies regarding surveys and questionnaires, use of paid consultants, etc.
As a Board member you will have at least one liaison assignment with a LITA Committee. As a liaison, you should:
- Attend committee meetings whenever possible.
- Exchange information with the committee chair when you cannot attend.
- Participate in any committee deliberations via email.
- Provide the committee with any helpful background information from the Board that will guide them in their activities.
- Provide the Board with any helpful background information from the committee as appropriate to the issues.
- Relay requests from one body to the other as specified by the committee chair and/or LITA President.
- Provide other advice or assistance as needed.
