DESCRIPTION: Primary duties include developing, maintaining, organizing, improving, contributing, and promoting the library’s growing information base and repositories in all formats. Technical services functions such as systems management, cataloging, collection development and other duties are also part of this position’s responsibility. QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in library/information science from an ALA accredited program; knowledge of traditional legal bibliography & electronic legal information resources; demonstrated knowledge of file formats, media/data migration, metadata, database management, and digitization techniques; experience in a library’s cataloging area with substantial knowledge of cataloging and classification policies, practice and tools.
DESIRED: ABA accredited JD or international equivalent; work experience in a law library or academic library; knowledge of current and emerging national cataloging standards; knowledge of and/or experience with Innovative’s Millennium system. DESCRIPTION: The Florida State University Libraries seeks a collegial and service-oriented leader to serve as an integral member of a team providing high-quality academic library services. The successful candidate will demonstrate a vision for developing, coordinating and supporting digital and information technologies that promote faculty and student success. Reporting to the Director of University Libraries and serving as a part of the Senior Management Team, the Associate Director (AD) of Library Technology oversees information technology and digital initiatives throughout the libraries. In collaboration with colleagues, the AD develops a vision for information technology and identifies opportunities to use emerging technologies to improve and enhance library services.
The AD helps plan, develop and support technologies and services associated with two renovation projects underway in Strozier Library (a Student Learning Commons and a Faculty Research Center) and will assist in planning for a new library building.
Responsibilities: • Develop strategic goals and objectives for the Technology Division in collaboration with the Director and other divisions within the library • Lead a team of 11 FTE in four departments: Library Systems, Web Development, Electronic Resources, and the Digital Library. • Monitor emerging trends and collaboratively evaluate the use of technology to enhance and expand overall operations and services throughout the libraries. • Oversee the 24/7 operation of library technology services and systems, including web and database servers, authentication systems, and connectivity; maintain backup system; participate in development and implementation of disaster recovery plans and procedures. • Develop technology budget proposals; research, recommend, and expedite system equipment and software purchases; explore opportunities for external funding for computing services. • Serve as liaison between the Libraries and other IT units on campus. Represent the Libraries on IT committees and programs at the campus, state, and national levels. • Recommend, develop and implement technology training for library employees. • Serve on library and university committees as required. • Perform other professional responsibilities as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: • B.S. in Computer Science or related field; at least 6 years of substantial and progressively responsible experience in information technology, including management experience and at least 2 years of supervisory experience. • At least one year of experience should be in an academic library setting. • Excellent knowledge of information technology principles, processes, systems and standards. Technology experience should include system administration; major operating system, system security, network administration, wireless networking, digital initiatives and/or web technologies. • Demonstrated commitment to customer service. • Ability to maintain an atmosphere conducive to job productivity and satisfaction where team goals are aligned to library objectives. • Ability to establish, communicate, and evaluate plans and policies that support the vision and mission of the library and the university. • A record of successful implementation and management of emerging technologies. • Demonstrated ability to think analytically and solve problems. • Skills to adapt to change and balance work priorities in a fast paced environment. • Demonstrated effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. • Experience with project management and systems management, analysis and design. • Experience providing staff training in the use of new technology.
DESIRED: • Graduate degree in information or library science. • Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends in higher education particularly in academic and digital library services and scholarly communication. • Familiarity with content licensing, copyright, data and patron privacy protection. • Good working knowledge of at least one integrated library system.
