LITA Human/Machine Interface Interest Group 2005 Midwinter Meeting Minutes

CHAIR: Lisa Martincik

REPORTER: Lisa Martincik

EMAIL: lisa-martincik@uiowa.edu

CONFERENCE: Midwinter

MEETING: Interest Group Business Meeting

ATTENDEES: 7

CURRENT ACTIVITIES:The HMI IG received enough signatures to be renewed.

Nancy Turner, vice-chair will become Chair at the end of the Chicago 2005 meeting. A vice-co-chair slot is still open.

Lisa related info from the Committee and IG Chairs meeting, exorting people to attend the Monday morning LITA Town Hall, and passing on the request for volunteers to train on the new CMS.

Members discussed issues of current interest and import to themselves and their institutions. Topics included accessibility, using portable devices to access library resources, usability testing, cooperation between libraries and IT departments, problems with spyware, portals and federated searching, and SFX.

We will be hosting a managed discussion in Chicago, focusing on unanticipated or unorthodox ways of access library content (portables, browser search tools, etc.).

FUTURE ACTIVITIES: Based on the managed discussion, we will put together a program for New Orleans 2006, hopefully in collaboration with the instruction section.
