2004 Interest Group Chairs Meeting
1. Interest Group Renewals
IG site has a renewal form now.
IG Chairs discussed the necessity of a petition of 10 members for IG renewal: is this needed? Should it be at the discretion of the chair? Chair and co-chair could also post to LITA-L to survey for interest/support. Could we develop alternative ideas using COMCHAIR? Maribeth will take it to bylaws committee and get back to Lorre. Lorre will followup to the group and clarify what the Bylaws and Organization committee needs to make it a committee agenda item.
2. IG web pages
The Chairs had a discussion regarding difficulties of getting content and updates onto the LITA website in the IG pages. Lorre has been asked to summarize the discussion and recommendations and report them to the Board.
3. Orientation questions
Question: how to advertise programs to other ALA divisions
Colby Riggs recommends co sponsorship so that the programs are listed in the announcements of other divisions and getting to all possible list serv lists. To discuss Co-Sponsorship possibilities IG Chairs can contact the Program Committee liaison for their interest group, Lorre, or Colby.
Question: Program slots - can they be spread out?
LITA tries to spread them out as much as possible.
Question: When you are planning your program how do you make sure what other gruops might be planning the same thing?
Contact the program committees within the divisions you think might be developing similar program topics and ask. Also Lorre can help recommend people to contact or the LITA Program Committee liaison assigned to your group might have some ideas.
What is cosponsorship?
That's negotiated between the IG and the other group doing the co-sponsorship. It may involve funding, or it may just be a nominal co-sponsorship for the purpose of promoting the program within more than one ALA division or section.
4. For new chairs: appointment forms are requird, so take your completed form to the LITA office or complete it electronically on the LITA web site.
