STATEMENT: Now as much as ever librarians face challenges from many
quarters regarding the use current and emerging library and information
technologies. We must not only be concerned with the use of appropriate
technologies for our user needs, but we must be on the forefront of technology
development for information storage and retrieval. As we see the proliferation
of information technologies for social interaction we must face the challenges
of harnessing these technologies in appropriate ways for the delivery of our
services and collections. LITA must play a vital role in supporting our efforts
in meeting these challenges through publications, educational activities and
opportunities for professional/social networking. LITA must continue to attract
the best professionals through engaging programs and activities.
