R. David Lankes, PhD, is Executive Director of the Information Institute of Syracuse (IIS) and an Assistant Professor at Syracuse University's School of Information Studies. The IIS houses the ERIC Clearinghouse on Information & Technology, the Gateway to Educational Materials (GEM), AskERIC, and the Virtual Reference Desk (VRD).
Lankes co-founded the award winning AskERIC project in 1992, an Internet service for educators offering resources and personal assistantance for thousands of teachers each week. Lankes is also a leader in the Virtual Reference Desk project, dedicated to the advancement of digital reference and the successful creation and operation of human-mediated, Internet-based information services. In addition, Lankes is one of the architects of GEM, a metadata and standards-based system for describing and finding educational materials on the Internet. Lankes' research is in education information and digital reference services. He has authored, coauthored and edited eight books, and written numerous book chapters and journal articles on the Internet and digital reference. He speaks frequently on Internet issues in education, libraries, and business. |

Liz Bishoff is currently the Executive Director of the Colorado Digitization Program. The Program, a collaborative among Colorado’s libraries, museums, archives and historical societies, is building a virtual collection of Colorado’s unique resources and special collections. More than 150,000 new digital images are available through Heritage Colorado—Digital treasurers of the west.
Liz has spoken extensively on collaborative digitization projects and worked with the libraries and museums in Alabama, North Carolina, Missouri, Minnesota, New Mexico, and California on various aspects of their collaborative digitization initiatives. Liz has lead the development of collaborative best practices in metadata, including the recently released Western States Metadata Dublin Core Best Practices. Prior to her current position, Liz was Vice President, Member Services at OCLC. Her responsibilities include management of OCLC relationships with external organizations, including the national libraries, professional library-related organizations and government relations, OCLC Users Council, and Library Member Relations. Liz has extensive experience in public libraries. She was the principal librarian for Support Services at Pasadena (California) Public Library. Additionally she has been a medium size public library director, school media specialist, and cataloger in her 33 year library career. She has taught in the graduate library programs at Dominican University (formerly Rosary College) and Emporia State University. Liz is currently a member of the ALA Board, ALA Council and is the ALA Treasurer. Liz holds an MLS from Rosary College, and has post-graduate work in public administration at Roosevelt University. |

David Seaman has been the Director of the Digital Library Federation since July 2002. DLF is a consortium of thirty-four university libraries and related organizations who are pioneering the use of electronic-information technologies to extend their collections and services. For ten years prior to joining the DLF, David was the founding director of the Electronic Text Center at the University of Virginia Library. He speaks and writes frequently on various aspects of humanities computing.
