Handheld Computers in Libraries:
the Technologies and Their Applications

PDA's and handheld computers are evolving beyond e-book readers. Yesterday's digital organizers are becoming indispensable library appliances. Speakers will discuss; handheld computing technologies, specific library applications, and the future for handheld computing in libraries.
- Keynote address by Dave Johnson, Senior Editor, Planet IT and Co-author of "How to Do Everything with Your Palm Handheld". Mr. Johnson will give an overview of Handheld Technology including background, basic concepts, emerging trends, and demonstrations.
- Mari Stoddard, Head of Educational Services at the Arizona Health Sciences Library, University of Arizona, will speak about handheld PDA use in the field of Health Science, applications relevant to libraries, and the impact of customer use on Library Services.
- Dr. Christie Koontz, Director, and Georgianna Strode, Coordinator of Computer Applications, at the GeoLib Program and Spatial Marketing at Florida State University will discuss how handhelds are used in library marketing research and how software was developed to facilitate this research.
- Participating vendors include John McCullough, Product Manager of Innovative Interfaces, Rita Sharma, Product Development Manager at Handspring, Inc., and John Yorkovich, Digital Technologies Marketing Manager, 3M Library Systems.
