Looking to improve your advocacy skills? Want to meet fellow library supporters from across the country? Get the tools to become an effective library advocate at the Advocacy Institute. Break-out sessions will focus on budget presentations, crisis communications, and passing bond issues/referenda. Core advocacy skills, such as message development and coalition building, will be covered in the morning. Attendees will leave with an action plan that they can implement in their communities or campuses.
“Spokane Moms” Lisa Layera Brunkan, Denette Hill and Susan McBurney, founders of the Washington Coalition for School Libraries and Information Technology, a grassroots initiative that raised $4 million for school libraries in Washington state, are among the featured guests during the day-long program.
Members from all segments of the library community are encouraged to attend. Attendees will learn how the crisis in school libraries can affect libraries of all types and how to leverage this crisis into their own advocacy campaigns.
Advance online registration is available for $50, and onsite registration will be available for $75. Both prices include lunch. Also available is the "I Love Libraries" registration package, which includes "Exhibits Supreme" registration, registration for the Advocacy Institute and an ILoveLibraries.org advocacy membership.
