Degrees and Certificates Awarded by US LIS Programs Introduction

Human Resource Development and Recruitment

Degrees and Certificates Awarded by U.S. Library and Information Studies Education Programs

The tables in each document presents statistics on racial, ethnic, and gender categories for persons awarded degrees and certificates by U.S. library education programs for the academic year listed.  This data is useful for libraries developing affirmative action plans.

The statistics on degrees and certificates come from the Library and Information Science Education Statistical Report, published annually by the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE).   Percentages were calculated by the ALA Office for Human Resource Development and Recruitment (HRDR).  Only data from ALA-accredited programs in the U.S. and Canada reporting racial, ethnic, sexual composition for their student populations were used.  Statistics on foreign students were not counted.

Earlier free reports on degrees and certificates are still available from HRDR for the years 1973-76, 1976-79, 1979-81, 1981-85, 1985-87, 1987-88, 1988-89, 1989-90, 1991-92, 1992-93, and 1993-94.
