Dear Ms. Russell:
I am writing to you on behalf of the American Library Association to convey the comments of the Government Documents Round Table (GODORT) on the discussion drafts of “Collection of Last Resort (CLR),” “Managing the FDLP Electronic Collection (EC),” and the Decision Framework for Federal Document Repositories.
As you are aware, the American Library Association has a long history of supporting the FDLP as an important service ensuring access to government information for the public. The transition of the federal government toward electronic creation, dissemination, and preservation of information poses enormous challenges to ensuring public access over time. Moreover, permanent public access, through a “Collection of Last Resort,” to the key documents, both those originally in paper or other tangible format and those ‘born digital,’ is a critical component in equitable and informed public access.
Sincerely,
Lynne Bradley
Director, Office of Government Relations
