Especially for Families

What's the most important thing a parent can do to help children do better in school and keep learning throughout their lives?

Take advantage of the public library!

Getting kids into the library at an early age is essential to their futures. Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifetime learning.

The library is a place for kids to read, learn and have fun. It is a place that families can enjoy together at no cost. And there are librarians to advise and guide kids in learning and exploring. There really is so much to see and so much to do @ your library®!

The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) is launching a national campaign to encourage all school-age children to use their public libraries. Called Kids! @ your library®, the initiative will promote the value of libraries and all the free resources available to families.

We hope you'll join us in this effort. If you haven't been to your local library lately, now is a great time. If you don't know where to find your local library, you can click HERE for help locating it.

We also invite you to explore the links on this Web page. We've gathered together a range of resources just for families - including lists of award-winning children's books, family-friendly Web sites, and resources to help support reading at home and lifelong learning.
