Publicity, Programming & Promotion
Spread the Word: There's "So Much to See, So Much to Do @ your library®!"

1. Ask schools to carry the message on morning announcements/other school channels.

2. Work with PTOs to publicize library programming at their meetings or in their newsletter. Provide flyers.

3. Ask schools, your community and other organizations to link to the library’s website or kids page from their home page.

4. Get library information into Welcome Wagon or Chamber of Commerce packets and back-to-school school supply promotions.

5. Submit Public Service Announcements (PSAs) to local radio stations and/or cable.

6. Put flyers out in grocery stories, local fairs and carnivals, garden shows, summer camps and after school care providers.

7. Make class visits to give out information. Tell children, "When you come to the library, be sure you come and say hello and tell me that you saw me at your school so I'll remember you."

8. Sponsor an "Invite a friend” storytime. Give stickers, pencils, and other small incentives.

9. Offer training for school-aged child care providers (the Y, faith organizations, Boys and Girls Club, schools).

10. Reach out to school library media specialists. Ask them to give out flyers and bring students to visit the "big" library.

11. Invite after school child care providers to bring their charges to the library once a month for a special program.

12. Invite summer day camps to participate in your summer reading program.

13. Arrange a “So much to see, So much to do @ your library®" display at schools.

14. Have @ your library® drawings for prizes such as binoculars or telescopes, tickets to fun places—whatever you can get donated or purchase inexpensively. Pass out entry forms at schools, grocery stores, pizza places—wherever you see families. If they come to the library and check out an item or attend a program, they can enter the drawing. If they bring a friend, they get two entries.
