IN THE NEWS
C&RL News, December 2004
Vol. 65, No. 11
This issue includes the ACRL Annual Report for fiscal year 2004, which provides an overview of ACRL’s achievements for the year, in addition to “nuts and bolts” information, such as a financial report and list of ACRL staff and their duties. The development of ACRL’s new strategic plan, “Charting Our Future: ACRL Strategic Plan 2020” stands out as a major accomplishment of the year. In addition to working on the strategic plan, ACRL offered a host of relevant programs and services during 2003–04. Make sure to read the report for complete details.
In the ACRL president’s theme article (now under the new heading “Creativity and Leadership,”), Institute for Museum and Library Services Director Robert Martin writes about the role of libraries and museums as social agencies that share a responsibility for fostering learning, rather than just providing information.
This month’s Internet Resources article provides a listing of Web sites to help you conduct research in the areas of the U.S. military and defense, while Job of a Lifetime focuses on the role of the library director at the State University of New York’s Maritime College.
“How do I get there from here?” provides strategies for changing career paths to a different area of librarianship or type of library. The authors give advice on skills assessment, researching job opportunities, and navigating the interview.
If you’re attending January’s Midwinter Meeting in Boston, the schedule of meetings and events will help you get a head start on planning your time while there. We look forward to seeing you!
