reading results to library media statistics, Used those statistics to
run No Activity reports so ALL students in our schools are served by our
libraries, Implement plan to have Web 2.0 services at all district
libraries, Involved in design and opening of 12 new elementary, middle,
and high schools and two renovations, Established first educational

pubic library and public school library television programs, Produced
Sunshine State Young Readers Award monthly television programs, Florida
Teen Reads Battle of the Books for high school students, FAME Jim Harbin
Student Media Festival awards ceremony and added hands on technology
workshops for students, Presenter: School Library Journal Summit,
Phoenix, AZ Nov. 2007. STATEMENT: My three main
professional concerns are meeting the technology needs of our digital
native patrons, demonstrating the relevance and effectiveness of school
library media services to student achievement for administrators, and
embracing and serving the reluctant reader and their unique needs.
However, what I fear most is the attitude of helplessness I hear from
some school library media specialists. We should and can define the
destiny of our profession by meeting the challenges head on with
solutions. We have begun that journey in our district with adding blogs,
podcasts, MP3 audio books this year. Our "Making the Grade"
school brochures compares our schools to the components of the Florida
School Library Study which has for the first time actively involved the
administrators, and special programs with Manga, Anime, and graphic
novels which have spurred interest in our struggling readers and gotten
them excited about coming to the library.
